Information on Anti-HIV Medications
Welcome to the treatment information guide for Deaf and Hard of hearing people. On the right is a colour-coded list of medications. Click on the name of a medication to view detailed information about it in written English and ASL.
Each medication listed includes dosage information in mg (milligrams), which may differ from one drug to another. The concentration of the medication is determined by your physician, in order to maximize its effectiveness and to prevent HIV from binding to CD4 cells in your body.
There are two types of side effects:
- Short-term side effects may last up to 8 weeks after you start taking the medication;
- Long-term side effects may last anywhere from 9 weeks to several years after you start taking the medication.
The section entitled "Important Information" contains information that is essential for you to know and understand. If you are not sure about how to take the medication, or if you would like more information about the medication's ingredients or its side effects, you are welcome to contact the CSSQ office and we will be happy to answer your questions.
